Joe Wilssens, launched Joe Wilssens Photography, Inc. in 1996. JWP provides photographic services to automobile manufacturers and publications serving the automotive industry from it's Detroit-based headquarters. Wilssens blends a unique journalistic approach to his corporate work creating images distributed worldwide through the Associated Press and other electronic media.
Wilssens served as Chief Staff Photographer for Automotive News and worked as a Contributing Photographer to AutoWeek magazine from 1984 to June 1996. Prior to that, he was employed as a staff photojournalist with other Michigan news organizations since 1977. During his career, Wilssens developed a reputation as a respected member of the Detroit news community - the past 17 years concentrating on the automotive industry.
A native Detroiter, Wilssens (45) has earned numerous awards for photography from the Michigan Press Photographer's Association and the Michigan Press Association. He successfully completed training in the use of Photoshop, computer, and scanning operation from Meteor Photographic in 1995. He earned an Associates Degree in Marketing with emphasis on Photography from Macomb County Community College in 1977.
JWP currently supplies photographic services to DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Company, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, General Motors and numerous manufacturers supplying the Big Three. In addition to Automotive News and AutoWeek, Wilssens has had his photography published in; USA Today, U.S. News and World Report, Business Week, Fortune, Time, GQ Japan, New York Times, Der Speigel, The Economist, Chicago Sun Times, Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Oakland Press, AutoCar & Motor, Advertising Age, Road & Track, Car & Driver, American Banker & Bond Buyer, Automobile, Pensions and Investment, Crain's New York Business, Crain's Chicago Business, Modern Healthcare, Electronic Media and many others. Wilssens also served the American Automobile Centennial Commission as official photographer documenting the 100th anniversary of the American automobile industry during its year-long celebration in 1996.
